Community Seaweed Workshop

EVENT DATE: 04/05/2024

Deakin University and Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative are offering a unique opportunity for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community members to spend a weekend learning more about seaweed, and in particular the traditional uses of seaweed in Aboriginal culture.

This two-day workshop includes transport each day from the Co-op in North Geelong to Queenscliff Marine Centre, where you will be able to explore seaweed in the university laboratories, and partake in scientific, art and traditional seaweed activities.

Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Aunty Judy-Dalton Walsh will share cultural traditional knowledge with the group, while Deakin scientists and researchers will be on hand to assist and share their own research and findings.

This workshop is open to all Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people, however places are limited.

All participants will be provided with a $200 voucher for their time in the project.
Deakin researchers will also be taking notes during the event to report on peoples experiences of the workshop.
