Morgan Street update – moving day!

We’re excited to provide an update for our community on our Morgan Street Redevelopment Project. You might have seen some of the photos and plans for the new building at our recent events, including our Wathaurong Open Day and the Rec in the Park event. This project is one that is so important for our community, to bring our services back under one roof and provide a space for community and cultural connection at the heart and home of our Co-op in North Geelong. We have recently had our planning scheme amendment approved by council, and we have gone out to tender to a shortlist of builders. We will be looking at appointing a builder by September, with the construction set to begin in October.

We are still awaiting the outcome of two major grant applications that we currently have in with the Federal and State Government, but in the meantime we are able to begin some early works on the new “triangle site” that will become our new carpark and entry point on Morgan Street. To be able to start this work – which involves removing and remediating contaminated soil – we will be moving all of our staff and services out of Morgan Street, into our other locations.

What does this mean for community?

Your services will continue to be delivered – but in a different location. We still have patient transport support for those who need it, to get you to your GP and health appointments.

Where will my appointments be?

GP and health assessments will mostly be taking place at our Albert Street, Geelong West offices. We will also be utilising our mobile medical van at various places to get out to community where it’s needed. KMS and MCH appointments will be held at the Karroong Kanyool Youth Hub at Forster Street. Our Community Strengthening/Aboriginal Access Points team will be moving to a new space at Kardinia Park – more information on this will be provided to community soon.

When will this happen?

Our last day of operation at Morgan Street will be on Friday 27th June. The Health Service at Morgan Street will be open in the morning on this day, and then will be closed in the afternoon to allow for moving of health items to Albert Street. From Monday 30th June, the Morgan Street building will be closed.

What about NAIDOC Week?

The Flag Raising event will still take place at Morgan Street on Monday 7th July – there will not be any works taking place with the digging up of contaminated soil before this date.

We will continue to keep community updated about this project – all of our staff are working hard to make this transition as smooth as possible for our community, and we are looking forward to getting started on this important project!
