Victoria’s first formal truth-telling process has almost concluded and the reports are due. Over the past four years Yoorrook has heard powerful truths from people right across the state, giving evidence on the impacts of colonisation, including systemic injustice, as well as the strength, resistance and achievements of First Peoples. These truths form the basis of Yoorrook’s final reports, documenting the past and providing a roadmap to transform the future.

Yoorrook Deputy Chair Commissioner Travis Lovett, Kerrupmara Gunditjmara, is walking across our beautiful Barwon South West Region from Portland, where colonisation began, to Parliament, where we can transform the future and he will be hand delivering these reports.

The walk started on Sunday 25 May on Gunditjmara Country in Portland, the Walk will travel through towns and centres including Warrnambool, Colac, Birregurra, Geelong and Footscray, finishing at Parliament House on Wednesday 18 June.

Yoorrook Justice Commission has invited everyone to participate in this historic event, and we’d really love to see Wathaurong show your love in the Colac legs and invite you to walk with us too. This powerful journey aims to bring everyone together to walk toward truth, celebrate the strength and resistance of Aboriginal people, and be proud to have the oldest living culture in the world as ours.

The walk will be a powerful way to build shared understanding of these truths, talking together about our history, while walking together to transform our future. For First Peoples and for all Victorians.

Colac Leg
June 5^th – June 11^th

Day 12: Thursday 5th June – Colac Western Reserve to Memorial Square
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm 
Walking difficulty: Easy. Distance: Approximately 3 km. Show your support for Commissioner Travis Lovett after a long day of walking by joining him for a short walk from Colac Western Reserve to Memorial Square.

Day 14: Saturday 7 June – Birregurra Loop
2:45 pm – 3:45 pm
Walking difficulty: Easy. Distance: Approximately 2.5 km. Enjoy a short, leisurely walk through Birregurra, stopping at several sites of significance to First Peoples that reference the nearby Buntingdale Aboriginal Mission. The walk will begin and end at the Birregurra Football Reserve (adjacent to our new Gathering Place at 35 Barry Street, Birregurra).
